Sampson Construction was awarded the UNL Love Library Learning Commons project which consisted of;
28,502 gross square feet of space
•A Learning Commons which operates as a student-centered space with coordinated resources and services, where students come together to study, learn, and socialize in a comfortable, flexible place.
•The addition of a monumental entry on the north façade and new entrance vestibules on the east and west, both providing easy access from all directions.
•An inviting outdoor plaza on the north side, which will wrap around the east and west extending the learning commons to the exterior.
Budget: $10 million
On December 8th 2014 Jeff MacTaggart Masonry was awarded by Sampson Construction, the Limestone package for the Outdoor plaza Area on the North Side of the UNL Love Library Learning Commons.
The Clark Enerson Partners were the design Architects on this project and along with the UNL’s Architectural and Civil Departments all eyes were on this project. They relied on our expertise and suggestions when it came to the installation of these items;
Our scope of work was to furnish and install Indiana Limestone - 57 tons for a seat wall that was 210 LF x 2’ wide, 54 tons for 25 ea. Benches that were 8’ and 16’ long x 2’ wide and 574 LF x 6” planter curbs. Our access was very limited and stone deliveries had to be schedule early morning to avoid all the pedestrian traffic that occurred. The heavier pieces of the seat wall and benches weighed up to 1,200 lbs and were set in place using the Anver Electric Powered Vacuum Generator (see article in this newsletter).
Team members were Mike Correll, Patrick Panio, Dustin Peirce, Mike Woodhead, Scott Fangman, John Gilmore and Doug Wagner. Congratulations on the work and a great looking end product!!
